Why Ashford is a Great Place to Live

Ashford is a quaint little town located in the Quiet Corner of Windham County, Connecticut. It is home to a number of special organizations, including the June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation, which is the largest boy scout camp in all of Connecticut.  It is also home to Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camp that was founded for children suffering with cancer and a variety of other critical illnesses.  Ashford is also home to a popular retreat and camp known as the Evangelical Christian Center. 


This quaint little Connecticut town boasts a variety of activities for its residents to enjoy.  Some of the more popular activities include:



  • The Bluebird Farm The family-owned Bluebird Farm is a working farm and is a very popular wedding venue with a rustic setting and décor.  It offers its guests a comfortable feel of home and is beautiful with its unique ambiance and tranquil setting. Boasting with not only its barn wedding venue, but a beautiful garden gazebo, an outdoor deck and fire pits, it is a breathtaking view for all to enjoy.

     

  • The William Benton Museum of Art This museum is a true treasure.  The building is an enhanced version of the original Benton Museum and offers its guests a lovely informative tour about the museum and its many exhibits.  The staff here is not only knowledgeable and professional, but very pleasant and enthusiastic and adds the perfect touch to the tour.  Though the museum is rather small, it offers a variety of very unique and intriguing art displays.  This hidden gem in the Storrs Mansfield area on the University of Connecticut campus is well worth a visit and will be one for the memory books.

 

  • Cassidy Hill Vineyard This lovely vineyard is located atop a beautiful hillside in the town of Coventry.  It’s tasting room is that of a well-decorated, country barn.  The overall grounds are extensive and the wine tasting a treat for all.  The Vineyard offers entertainment on Friday nights outside the ever-popular tasting barn.  Customers can purchase their favorite bottle of wine to enjoy with their own tasty snacks as they listen to the comforting music on the veranda.  Guests must bring their own chairs to this fun-filled evening of enjoyment.

   

  • Diana’s Pool This hidden little gem offers two watering holes to wade and swim in.  It also boasts with somewhat difficult hiking trails if you are up for the challenge.  Diana’s Pool is an ideal spot for simply viewing nature and sitting quietly to enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of nature.  There is not a whole lot of parking here, but the short walk in after parking on the street is well worth your time and adventure. It is a great place for adults and kids to explore and is also a one-of-a-kind picnic spot.  The entire grounds are absolutely beautiful winter, spring, summer and fall. 

 

  • The Wooden Spoon Family Restaurant – This charming little restaurant right in the heart of Ashford offers a tasty breakfast, lunch and dinner of American cuisine.  The restaurant is especially known for its delicious breakfasts and its tasty fish and chips as well as its comfortable atmosphere and reasonable prices.  Visitors and residents alike can enjoy a true dining experience at this simple but truly delightful little restaurant.

The quaint little town of Ashford is home to a wide range of other popular restaurants, including Blaze Pizza Restaurant, the Blue Oak Restaurant, Grill 37 and the ever-popular Ashford dairy bar.  Whether a college student, a professional or a hungry family of four, you are sure to find something to satisfy and tingle your taste buds.  There are also a number of exciting nightclubs in the area, including the American Eagle Saloon and Café, the Fenton River Grill, Yukon Jacks Hilltop Grill and a host of others.
